Cecilia Wilmot Ballam
Sculpting form. Revealing soul.
Cecilia creates works that captures more than physical likeness. Her hands search for spirit, story, and soul.
To listen.
To mould.
To reveal.
Born in England in 1976 to South African artist parents, Cecilia’s return to South Africa in the late 1980s marked a reconnection to her roots and a lifelong immersion in creativity. Raised in the hills of Shongweni in KwaZulu-Natal, art was more than a passion. It was family, legacy, and language.
Cecilia studied Fine Art at the University of Natal and graduated in 1998. She later settled in Johannesburg where she co-founded Space Alchemy, a sculpture studio built on collaboration, craftsmanship, and scale. Working with a team of talented junior sculptors, she continues to evolve her technical expertise while expanding the reach of her commissioned works.
Specializing in clay sculpting and bronze casting, Cecilia creates art that captures more than physical likeness. Her hands search for spirit, story, and soul. Whether listening to Verdi while sculpting his bust or channelling the humanity of Nelson Mandela, her work is a communion with her subject’s essence.
From selling her first sculptures from a suitcase at age twelve to shaping monumental commissions, Cecilia’s practice is rooted in intuition, history, and the quiet power of connection.
