Gavin is an award-winning photographer and visual artist based in Cape Town, South Africa. With over two decades of experience in advertising and a background in cinematography, he brings a finely honed, concept-driven approach to both commercial and fine art projects. In 2021, Gavin was named a Hasselblad Master in the Fine Art category, a recognition that reflects his dedication to pushing the boundaries of image-making while staying true to a strong photographic foundation.

His career began in the film industry, where he worked as a cinematographer and developed a deep understanding of light, composition, and storytelling. Although successful in that field, Gavin was drawn to the intimacy and creative control of still photography, where he could shape every aspect of the image. Over time, his personal practice evolved into a distinctive visual language defined by soft palettes, clean compositions, and an African-inspired yet modern aesthetic.

Gavin’s fine art work has been exhibited internationally, from New York and London to Paris, Milan, and Abidjan. His images balance technical precision with emotional resonance, often evoking an atmosphere that lingers with the viewer long after the first encounter. In recent years, he has also explored the integration of AI within his creative process, using it intentionally to expand possibilities while ensuring that the essence of his photography remains grounded in craftsmanship and vision.

Beyond the studio, Gavin is a husband, father, and lifelong surfer whose connection to Cape Town’s natural beauty continually inspires his art. His guiding belief is simple: an image succeeds when it evokes a feeling, creating a space where viewers can find their own meaning in the work.
