Heike Jeske

Moulding space into meaning

Heike creates spaces where emotion, nature, and material converge.

Fluid

Transformative

Intricate

Heike is a Pretoria-based mixed media, printmaking, and installation artist whose work explores the dynamic relationship between material, space, and emotion. Her practice is rooted in transformation, moulding and morphing elements, empty spaces, and unseen potential into authentic, thought-provoking expressions.

Growing up on Ludwig’s Rose Farm, Heike developed a deep connection to nature, particularly flora, which continues to inspire her art. Heike explores Roses through colour, fragrance, form, and symbolism, remaining central to her creative inquiry, inviting reflection on why this flower has captivated humanity for centuries.

Heike’s work often juxtaposes different forms, combining mixed media with printmaking to challenge boundaries and create unexpected softness within rigid structures. As a ballroom dancer, she infuses her pieces with movement, rhythm, and line, a quality that emerges clearly in works like Blown Away and La Pied. Her large-scale, site-specific installations transform space through the interplay of light, colour, and form, immersing viewers in diverse moods and atmospheres.

Her creative process is deeply introspective, quietening ego to invite stillness, emotion, and connection into her work. Journaling, writing, and rhyming form part of her practice, as do her explorations of past and present artistic traditions. Hardworking and unafraid to break rules, she embraces experimentation to discover something new and deeply personal.

Through her art, Heike creates spaces where emotion, nature, and material converge, an ongoing journey of creativity that transforms both the work and those who encounter it.
