Regi Bardavid

Summoning the unseen. Painting the unspeakable.

Her works are symphonic in their layering, each piece an act of spiritual excavation that defies explanation yet pulses with clarity.

To unearth.

To transcend.

To remember.

Regi’s practice is a conversation between matter and mystery. For more than four decades, she has remained rooted in abstraction, surrendering to the intuitive act of painting as both meditation and rebellion. Her canvases are neither illustrative nor descriptive, but spiritual terrains where emotion, memory, and instinct converge. Working with the unpredictability of pouring, scratching, staining and mark-making, Regi invites chance to shape the final image. An image that often hovers just beyond recognition, triggering deep and often wordless responses in the viewer.

Born in Alexandria, Egypt and shaped by a life lived across Italy, Zimbabwe, Zaire and South Africa, Regi’s cultural lens is wide, but her gaze is inward. Drawing inspiration from traditional healers, meditation, and ancient rituals like reading coffee grounds, she seeks to access the collective unconscious, making the invisible visible through colour, texture, and rhythm.

For Regi, painting is not about representation but revelation. Her works are symphonic in their layering, each piece an act of spiritual excavation that defies explanation yet pulses with clarity. In a world demanding constant definition, Regi’s work whispers the value of ambiguity, of mystery, and of trust in the unseen.
